ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO (KTVI) - A Belleville, Illinois man is behind bars in connection with a string of frightening sexual attacks on young girls.
Larry Alverson is charged with one count of first-degree burglary, four counts of sodomy or attempted sodomy first-degree with a victim under 12 years old, and three counts of armed criminal action.
Alverson, 41, made a brief appearance around 10 a.m. Wednesday inside the Justice Center in Clayton for an arraignment. He was in prison khakis with handcuffs and shackles.
Alverson said very little and was referred to the public defender for an attorney.
On July 10, authorities said Alverson cut off an ankle monitor he was wearing after exposing himself to a woman in Belleville. A week later on July 17, investigators said Alverson brushed up against an 11-year-old girl in a Lemay Shop N’ Save and later followed the girl and her family to their Mehlville area home in a stolen black Honda.
Early the next morning, prosecutors allege Alverson sexually assaulted the girl in her bedroom with her two brothers present.
Then this past Monday night, Alverson supposedly groped a teenage girl and possibly another at the Target on Hampton in south city.
County cops finally caught up to Alverson on Tuesday, near S. Broadway and Primm.
Alverson has faced a laundry list of criminal charges in the past, including sex related crimes, but he has never been convicted of a sex crime.
The charges Alverson appeared for Wednesday morning are for the case that began at the Lemay Shop N’ Save. More charges against him are likely.
Alverson remains behind bars at the justice center in Clayton on a $1 million cash-only bond.
