ST. LOUIS (KTVI) – The St. Louis Water and Fire Department are on the scene of a water main break on Kingshighway at Barnes Jewish Hospital. Officials say a 12-inch main broke under BJC Hosptial flooding  Kingshighway and sending nearly three feed into part of the basement at BJC.

Kingshighway was not shut down, but the water at one point in the northbound lanes appears to be at least two feet deep. Forcing vehicles to make their way slowly through the water.

The St. Louis Fire Department says the hospital had to shut off the air-conditioning to Queeny Tower, and move 134 patients to another area of the hospital.  As a precaution, electrical breakers were also shut off.

The water main break isn't affecting the hospital as its fed by a different water main.

Chief Jenkerson said an event similar to this occurred a couple of years ago on the Fourth of July.
