HARRISBURG, IL (KFVS) – Some parents took their kids out of class on Monday because of security concerns over a what the school is calling a dress code violation.
KFVS-TV reports that a teacher told a student at Harrisburg High School to turn his confederate flag shirt inside out, or go home. The student chose to leave the school.
The Southern Illinoisan reports that dozens of students rallied on Saturday night. They held Confederate flags to support the student’s decision to wear the rebel t-shirt.
Rumors of lock-downs and armed students prompted heightened security at the school. Five police officers were at the school on Monday to maintain security.
Police only reported one incident on Monday. Someone burned a Confederate flag on the back of a truck. This same truck is driven by the student who wore the Confederate flag t-shirt to school.
