PINE LAWN, MO (KTVI) – There were some heated moments at Tuesday night’s Pine Lawn City Council meeting. The city is considering contracting police services the St. Louis County Police Department. But some residents of the city are upset to over the lack of transparency over the process for the possible disbandment of the Pine Lawn Police Department.

Tonight’s meeting only lasted 6 minutes, before the council went into a closed session citizens and members of the media were asked to leave the building because of a closed personnel session.

But before the council adjourned, citizens passed out pink slips to council members. The citizens say they want more transparency, accountability and public input. That`s something they say the city is lacking.

Following the meeting, Alderman Adrian Wright says no major decisions were made.

Pine Lawn resident Kelli Shelton had this to say about the meeting, “All we did was just listen to a presentation. All were saying is in the event that we have to disband our department then were looking at other departments.” said Wright

“When there’s information that needs to be disseminated it should be in a fair manner so everyone has an informed opinion about what’s going on and not just a select few.” said Shelton

FOX tried to reach the police chief with no luck, however some residents say he’s doing a good job by trying to clean things up in the troubled department.

St. Louis County Police Jon Belmar released this statement earlier on Tuesday about the county being in talks to provide police services to Pine Lawn:

In discussions with St. Louis County Executive Steve Stenger, we agree that providing a professional, accredited, full-service police department is not only in the best interest of the citizens of Pine Lawn but St. Louis County as a whole.  I’m confident the citizens of Pine Lawn would benefit from the police services provided by the outstanding men and women of the St. Louis County Police Department.  The St. Louis County Police Department stands ready, willing and able to serve the citizens of Pine Lawn.
