WILDWOOD, MO (KTVI) - There was one less parking place in front of Wildwood City Hall today and it was done in the name of green space. The City of Wildwood was among communities around the world today taking part in PARK (ing) day. It's a movement that started several years ago in San Francisco where parking places are transformed into park-like settings for one day to acknowledge the importance of parks.

The event takes place on the third Friday of September each year.

Wildwood city leaders put down turf, mums, a couple of tables and a barbecue for their park area.

"Green space is a great thing to have even if it's a parking space that turns into green space for a day. And hopefully it reminds people to get outside and enjoy the day, it's a beautiful time of year - take advantage of it," said Wildwood Mayor Tim Woerther.

This is the first time Wildwod has taken part in PARK (ing) day.

The mayor says the city plans to do it again in the future.
