ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)- Pre-game festivities led to a small fire of the field at the Edward Jones Dome on Sunday. As the St. Louis Rams took the field, the team's pyrotechnics led to sparks falling on the turf. One spot near the 5-yard line then caught fire.

Fire extinguishers were used to put out the fire and the game's opening kickoff was delayed by about twenty minutes while the field was cleaned up and repaired.

ST. LOUIS RAMS STATEMENT ON DELAY OF GAME

During today’s pregame player introductions there was a pyrotechnic cart malfunction that resulted in the turf catching fire briefly. The fire was quickly extinguished by field staff. Out of an abundance of caution for player safety, the game was delayed to clean any residue from the turf. NFL officials were involved from the onset to monitor the cleanup process and approve the game to begin when it was deemed safe.
