From 1961 to 1975, NASA’s Apollo program sought to place human beings on the lunar surface and safely bring them home. Between 1969 and 1972, 12 men were able to walk on the moon. During each of the manned missions, astronauts took thousands of pictures using their Hasselblad cameras, which wound up in the NASA archives.

Last week, NASA released the entire collection of Apollo astronaut photographs online through Facebook and Flickr.
