ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)- Welcome to Red October. The National League Divisional playoffs begin Friday evening in St. Louis as the Cardinals take on the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs advanced to the NLDS after a 3-0 win over the Pirates in the NL wild card game Wednesday night.

Back in the lineup for the Cardinals is catcher Yadier Molina, who missed several end of season games with a strained ligament in his left thumb. That injury happened during a September 20th game against the Cubs. Molina will wear a plastic splint while catching and tape the thumb for at-bats.

Stephen Piscotty, sidelined by a concussion after a collision with Peter Bourjos late in the season, will start at first base for the Cardinals.

The Cardinals ended the season with 100 wins, winning the NL Central for the third straight year. Chicago finished second in the division and is in the postseason for the first time since 2008.

This is the first time the two rivals have faced each other in the postseason.
