Teen charged for breaking into several Desoto cars and a home

JEFFERSON COUNTY, MO (KTVI) –  Police say they put an end to a string of Desoto burglaries after they arrested a teen.

Mathew Lewis, 17, is behind bars after police say he broke into a vehicle to steal a handgun. A victim said he had seen a suspicious white male in the area.  That suspect headed into the woods.

The victim called police. An officer made contact with Lewis at 5300 block of Hwy P, Desoto.

During an investigation deputies discovered more reports of stolen items in the area.  Victims say items were stolen from 11 unlocked vehicles and one home.

Police say Lewis had numerous items taken from vehicles. The contacted eight victims and returned the stolen items.

Lewis has been charged with several counts of burglary, stealing a firearm and tampering with a vehicle. His bond is set at $25,000.
