BRIDGETON, MO (KTVI) – Many family traditions around the holidays are centered around the dinner table.

But did you know that 1 in 8 people in the bi-state region are suffering from hunger? The St. Louis Area Foodbank says that for every dollar donated, 4 meals can be provided. Their mission is "FIGHTING HUNGER, FEEDING HOPE."

St. Louis Area Foodbank collects food through a variety of ways:

  •       food drives
  •       USDA
  •       food manufacturers
  •       farmers

The foodbank then gets the food out to over 500 local agencies it serves (food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters). The aim is to provide not just food but healthy food options for a balanced diet. The foodbank provides produce and other healthy items through partnerships with local farmers.

As of right now, donations are down about 10% for this year. You can help by monetary donations, volunteering your time at the foodbank, or by holding local food/funds drive through your organizations.
