ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - On Saturday morning St. Louis city police were called to the 3400 block of South Grand to investigate how and why someone vandalized the Planned Parenthood. Employees say at around 8:45 am a woman showed up at the location took rocks from the buildings landscaping and threw them at the windows breaking them all. Surveillance video captured the crime. We have also confirmed that police took a woman into custody just minutes after the crime. Planned Parenthood CEO Mary Kogut says the act was outrageous.
"It's horrible were a healthcare organization this kind of damage to our facility is unacceptable. This year has been filled with a lot of hateful rhetoric vile rhetoric and that's creating a violent opposition to Planned Parenthood care and healthcare providers. I hope we find out why and hope that nothing else happens." said Kogut
Workers say they've received threatening calls over the years, but it has never escalated to damaging property.
More than 4500 men and women visit the clinic every year. Planned Parenthood has been the St. Louis metro since the 1970's and the south city location been open since 1995. No employees were hurt or inside at the time of the incident. The location will be up and running with boarded windows by Monday morning.
