In Pacific, volunteers are filling sandbags at a breakneck pace. Those who have been flooded in the past know what they need, but there are plenty who have never had water who find themselves getting ready for it.
About 300 homes and businesses already have water inside, but residents are trying to keep that number from rising too much more. Unfortunately, the Meramec River does not appear to be cooperating.
The all-time record river level in Pacific was 33.6 feet. The latest forecast has the river cresting more than two feet higher than that.
