Belleville police investigate back to back armed robberies

BELLEVILLE, IL (KTVI)- Belleville police are investigating back to back robberies that occurred Sunday night, January 3, 2016. Around 9:45pm, officers responded to the Casey’s  General Store in the 1700 block of Mascoutah Avenue for an  armed robbery. Employees said that a black male, dressed in all black with a hood up, and cloth covering his face entered the store, displayed a handgun, and demanded money. The employees complied and the suspect fled the business toward Garden Boulevard.  The suspect was described as being short and stocky , about 5’4” 250lbs.

Then just before 10:00pm, Belleville police responded to Midwest Petroleum in the 1291 Frank Scott Parkway for another armed robbery. The store clerk said that a young black man came in the store, showed  a handgun, and demanded cash and cigarettes. The clerk complied with the suspectwho fled the store in an unknown direction. The suspect in this incident was described as in his 20’s with a thin build, short black hair, no facial hair, and having light skinned .

No one was injured in either incident.
