EDWARDSVILLE, IL (KTVI)- A man is under arrest after alledgedly stealing the baby Jesus figurine from an Edwardsville church’s nativity scene.  The Edwardsville Police Department says that the figurine was reported missing from St. Boniface Catholic Church on N. Buchanan St. on January 4, 2016. Employees say it was likely stolen sometime during the week of Christmas.

Police identified a suspect and learned the Jesus figurine may have been discarded on the grounds of the Watershed Nature Center in Edwardsville.

On Thursday, January 7, someone visiting the nature center found the baby Jesus and returned it to the church. One of the arms was broken.  On Friday, January 8, police arrested Matthew J. Fellhauer, 25, of Florissant, MO, on one count of Theft Under $500 and one count of Criminal Damage to Property.  Both are class A misdemeanors.

Fellhauer was released on a notice to appear at the Madison County Courthouse.
