ST. LOUIS (KTVI) - For the first time in nearly twenty-five years the St. Louis Public School District is seeking an increase of $0.75 operating tax levy on the April ballot.  The Special Administrative Board of St. Louis Public School District voted Tuesday to place Proposition 1 on the April 5th ballot.

If approved by the voters, the funds would be used for early childhood education, expand character and alternative education options, improve safety and security equipment and personnel, and offer competitive salaries to teachers and staff.

Currently, the levy is set at $3.75 per $100 of assessed valuation.

The district says the proposition would raise an estimated $27.8 million dollars each year for the district.
