Vicious gas station beating caught on video

WASHINGTON PARK, IL (KTVI) – Three men are in custody after allegedly beating a man and leaving him for dead, the Washington Park Police Department said Thursday.

“The video is rough. It's pretty graphic. This really hit home for us because the young man is a veteran,” said Washington Park Police Chief Tony Tomlinson.

Police said the man was attacked October 14, 2015 at the Mobil gas station on Kingshighway. The victim went to get gas when he was caught off guard.

“It's horrible to think that you could go fight for your country, raise your right hand and take the oath and say that you will fight for your country, and you come home and after fighting the enemies, come home to a gas station and get beat up. It's just tragic,” Tomlinson said.

In the video, you can see the suspects allegedly kicking the victim and leaving his motionless body on ground. After the brutal attack, one of suspects poured alcohol on the victim's face. The victim was then run over by a car.

Fortunately, the veteran survived the attack and is recovering at home.

Three men were arrested in connection with the beating and charged with aggravated battery and mob action. Two of the men were arrested about two months ago, but the third suspect was not apprehended until last week. Police identified the suspects as Lamarcus Evans, Earl Agnew, and Deon Sanders.

“When you commit any type of crime, we have to send a message out here that we are going to work together. We worked with the East St. Louis Police Department, the state police, and Centerville (police) to bring these gentlemen to justice,” Tomlinson said.
