O'FALLON, IL (KTVI)- This morning John Pertzborn and Randi Naughton took a trip down to O'Fallon, Illinois to visit the oldest mansion in the town.

1680 Mansion Way, commonly referred to as 'The Mansion', was built in 1857 by August Wastfield. The Mansion has changed hands over the years, and is now owned by Kathy Cox and Jerry Conway.

The Mansion is now home to The Mansion Restaurant, owned by Cox and Conway. Before it was a grille however, The Mansion was part of the Underground Railroad. The Underground Railroad was a series of secret routes used to hide slaves escaping to freedom.

Under the stairs is a spot where slaves on the path to freedom were allowed to hide. One hundred individual slaves stayed at The Mansion during those days, and every single one made it to freedom.
