Anonymous group questions military record of Eric Greitens, candidate for governor

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - The race for Missouri Governor is proving to be a very ugly one.   One of the candidates seeking the Republican nomination is considered by many an American hero.  But an anonymous video is questioning Eric Greitens military record.  Greitens is wasting no time setting the record straight.

Greitens entered his news conference Monday saluted by fellow war veterans.  The former Navy Seal, bestselling author and founder of The Mission Continues is once again finding himself the target of anonymous attacks.  The latest one questions his service as a Navy Seal.

Greitens fired back with his own video called The Truth, calling cowardly anonymous attacks against the proud military service of an American patriot unacceptable and un-American.

The video includes statements from Navy Seal officers backing his record.

"We will pursue as strongly as possible.  This is a slander not just against me but every veteran who served and we will fight this because that's the right thing go do," said Greitens.

Greitens said he felt he had to respond to the YouTube video because it's had thousands of views and his campaign has been getting a lot of questions about it.

In published reports all three of Greitens rivals, Peter Kinder, John Brunner and Catherine Hanaway have denounced the attack.

Statement from Mike Hafner, Brunner Campaign Communications Director:

The Brunner campaign is absolutely not involved. This clearly appears to be an internal conflict among Navy SEALs, as evidenced by the comments on the YouTube video. For Mr. Greitens to slander our campaign and our candidate with spurious personal attacks is clearly a failure to assume responsibility for whatever his past relationships are with his fellow Navy SEALs. John Brunner respects all of his fellow veterans for their military service.
