ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - Soldiers' Memorial Military Museum closes its doors today for big renovations.

Organizers say the improvement to the museum inside this facility will be a game changer, but like anything such improvements take time.

The museum inside the Memorial will officially close this afternoon, and it will remain shuttered for the next two years.  In the meantime the Missouri Historical Society, which operates the History Museum, will be making some very big changes.  They plan to spend about 30 million dollars to give the museum, which opened in 1938, a major facelift.   The Historical Society signed its agreement with the city to take operation of the facility over this past veterans day.  They say the renovation will lead to a state of the art museum facility that honors military service, veterans and their families.

They will conduct a flag lowering ceremony here at 1:00 this afternoon, and if you`re downtown, you`re welcome to attend.  It will be your last time to see the old monument before the work crews move in and start making changes.
