EAST ALTON, IL (KTVI) – The death of a 4-month-old is under investigation. Police say Kiley Burford suffocated while in an adult bed.

The infant was discovered by her mother on Monday morning. She had an adult memory foam pillow over her face. Madison County Police say that the pillow was originally propped on its edge. It appears to have fallen onto its flat surface on the child.

Kiley’s mom called 911 at around 8:30am. She was rushed to Alton Memorial Hospital and pronounced dead at 9:09am.

An autopsy indicates that the cause of death is consistent with suffocation. No precise cause of death has been named because more studies are being conducted.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Marks Mortuary in Wood River, Illinois.

The death remains under investigation.
