ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – A Berkeley man is being charged with two felony counts of child endangerment. Laron Crawford’s 4-year-old son died of an overdose.

Police say Laron’s son Jaron found a bottle of methadone in the refrigerator on January 11th. The 4-year-old died after swallowing the drugs. The St. Louis County Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide.

Crawford tells investigators he is a heroin addict. He uses the methadone to help with withdrawal symptoms.

The father of twins tells police that he knew his son and daughter were able to open the refrigerator.

Crawford is currently being held in jail. His bail is set at $100,000, cash-only.
