ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)- The Irish Community in St. Louis gathered on Sunday to remember the 100th anniversary of the 1916 Easter Uprising in Ireland.

That was the effort by Irish republicans to end British rule in Ireland and establish an independent Irish Republic.

Nearly 500 people were killed in the uprising, more than half of them were civilians.
