Witnesses describe gas line explosion

MARYVILLE, IL (KTVI) – Wednesdays gas line explosion frightened a lot people in the Maryville Illinois area.  The blast happened around 2 pm leaving residents wondering what had happened.

Some residents witnessed the blast.  One person thought it was a house fire, and another thought the flames rose as high as the Gateway Arch.

One resident said a police officer should be recognized as a hero for driving up to the fire and rescuing an injured utility worker from the blast area.
