ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - Violence in south St. Louis overnight after one man is shot and killed.  Now the search is on for the killer.

We`re told the man who was shot and killed had just left the Chunky Boy Bar and Grill on south Jefferson near Pestalozzi when he was attacked.  It all unfolded just before 1am this morning.  A woman who says she is the girlfriend of the Chunky Boy Bar and Grill owner tells us someone came up and opened fire on the man as he was on the sidewalk outside the business.  We understand the man may have been hit twice.  He was rushed to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police have not yet released the man`s age or his name.  Officers responded to the scene after getting several calls from people in the business reporting shots being fired.
At this point, police haven`t released details about what led up to the shooting.  We`re told the person who was killed was the only victim in this case.  So far police have no suspects.

Two people who drove by the scene told us they knew the victim and that he will be missed.

This is St Louis` 49th homicide so far this year.  That is the same number of homicides that the city had through yesterday of last year.
