ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)-Gertrude “Trudy” Busch, the former wife of Anheuser-Busch beer baron August “Gussie” Busch Jr., died Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at her home in Town and Country at the age of  89.  She was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease seven years ago.

Born in Lucerne, Switzerland, she spoke fluent French, Italian, English and German.

She met her late husband at the age of 22 while working at her family’s restaurant in Lucerne. Smitten,  Busch began to court her despite being still married to but estranged from his second wife.

They married in 1952 and went on to have seven children.

A memorial Mass will be held on Monday. The family asks that memorials be made in honor of Dr. John Morris and the Knight Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center, 4488 Forest Park Avenue Suite 130 St. Louis, MO 63108.
