New York City (WPIX) – Rescuers are responding to a small plane that has crashed into the Hudson River Friday evening.
It happened just before 8 p.m. near the New Jersey side.
FDNY officials are on the scene.
It is not known how many people are on board the plane.
The FAA released the following statement:
The FAA received a report that a World War II vintage P-47 Thunderbolt aircraft may have gone downing the Hudson River, two miles south of the George Washington Bridge. The FAA notified the NYPD Aviation Unit and the Port Authority of NY and NJ. Search and rescue was headed to the scene.
