ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)- St. Louis Police are investigating a frightening crime overnight in the Central West End where a man was held up at gunpoint. It happened near the intersection of Euclid at Westminster Place, not far from Washington as well as McPherson. So far police say the suspect is still at large.

Police received the call for the hold-up about 12:50 a.m. Authorities say the victim, who is an adult male, was walking alone on Euclid when he was confronted at gunpoint by one suspect, also a man. Investigators believe money was taken from the victim. However, they did not disclose how much cash was stolen.

Fortunately, police tell us the victim was not hurt in this case.

Police think the armed robbery was random. It appears the victim and suspect did not know each other.

This latest armed robbery happened just a block or so away from where 28-year-old Tyrell Thompson was shot and killed less than two weeks ago in another hold-up near Olive and Walton. Police say Thompson was with a female friend when they were confronted by two suspects with guns who were trying to rob them. Investigators say Thompson was trying to protect his friend when he was shot in the chest and back.

He died at a hospital.

The suspects in that case took off in a dark colored vehicle and are still on the loose. A reward is still out in that case.

At this point, police have not made any connection between the Thompson case and this latest armed robbery.

The overnight crime happened right across the street from the Central West End Neighborhood Security Initiative. There are surveillance cameras in the area-police will surely review that footage to see if it can help in this investigation.
