As we have seen temperatures reach over 100 degrees on the heat index, there are people desperately trying to find ways to stay cool. Fox 2 News received a phone call from Tammie Anderson, a tenant at the James House, a low-income housing complex on St. Ferdinand. She said the air has been off and on for weeks and she’s been struggling to stay cool on the hottest days of the year.
Fox 2 contacted the city and was told there was an outage caused by high electricity use issue that caused the air system to kick off twice today, resulting in warmer apartments. Residents are heading to cooling centers until the air reaches a more hospitable temperature.
Some residents were asking if their rent would be prorated because they stayed at hotels while the air was out.
