ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - A man was struck and killed by a MetroLink train in downtown St. Louis near Union station just after 7pm. The accident happened at 20th Street and Clark Sve.

Police say the victim was a homeless man in his mid 50's. It appears to be a tragic accident. He was sitting or sleeping too close to the tracks.

The train operator was turning a curve so by the time she saw him it was too late to stop. Police say there was some indications the man had been living near the tracks.

MetroLink trains have resumed their normal operation.  They were shut down between the Grand and Stadium stations. Shuttleswere taking passengers between stops.
