Former Cardinals players David Freese and Eric Fryer drove in four of the five Pirates runs to help beat the former team, the Redbirds 5-2 on Tuesday night at Busch Stadium. Freese has two hits and one run batted in, while Fryer, recently released by the Cards, had two hits and three RBI. The Cardinals had built a 2-0 lead on run scoring singles by Jedd Gyorko and Matt Holliday. But the Pirates scored 2 runs in the 5th inning and 3 more in the 6th off losing pitcher Mike Leake (5-7). The loss drops the Cardinals season record to 43-40, just one half game ahead of Pittsburgh for second place in the National League’s Central division. The Cardinals continue to struggle at home, with an 18-25 mark. St. Louis still trails the Cubs by nine games in the division.
