ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - A St. Louis man is going viral for his work helping out homeless people. His name is Jake Austin, and he created a mobile shower unit that has recently gained national attention. A photo gallery of his truck made Reddit's home page.

We brought this story to you last summer. But Austin has been helping homeless people for years.

At first, he gave out things like shampoo and conditioner, only to come to the realization that the homeless people he was helping didn’t have access to a shower. That’s when Austin had an idea – he decided to build a mobile shower unit in a used truck, and “shower the people” was born.

The inside of his truck is equipped with two showers, sinks and mirrors. It serves up to 60 people a day, connects to fire hydrants and uses an external generator for power.

Austin also employs homeless people in the St. Louis area to make the soap he provides every morning for those in need of a hot shower.
