Millions of people are walking around all over the world, looking for virtual animated characters, hidden in real-world locations. The app uses the GPS and clock on your phone to create what is called, "augmented reality." You try and capture monsters that are hidden in that world.
Depending on the time of day the creatures you see will be different. Going to one location during the day may show one world. Going to the same place at night, you might see ghost type creature, or monsters that would only come out in the dark.
According to social media tracking the Pokemon app is now one of the biggest social media platforms in terms of daily active users. It is even surpassing Twitter in active daily users.
