ST. LOUIS (KTVI) – A group of police officers from the St. Louis area has spent the week in Dallas, sending prayers as the city recovers.

St. Louis County Police Officer Kevin Minor and three other members of his department arrived in Dallas late Monday night. The team has been busy attending memorials for the five officers shot and killed by gunman Micah Johnson July 7.

“It’s emotional. I drove through a procession the other day, with two other officers in the car with me, and we had trouble keeping our emotions in check,” Minor said.

Minor said the response from the public has been overwhelming. He has met with police officers from across the country.

“We’ve all be consoling each other and giving each other encouragement to go back and do the jobs that we’re supposing to be doing and be careful doing it,” he said.

The message he has received during the services have been powerful, he said.

“A situation like this could make a person question what they do, and if they want to come back and keep doing it,” he said. But it just really strengthened me to keep doing what I’m doing. I know why I’m doing it. It’s why God put me here.”

The team will return to St. Louis Saturday.
