Severe storms could bring 70mph winds to St. Louis

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - We're in for an interesting afternoon of weather in the St. Louis area. There is a severe thunderstorm watch until 8pm tonight. It runs from the city of St. Louis to points north and northwest.

Isolated thunderstorms should continue throughout the afternoon. The main event is on the Iowa border right now. A bow echo of severe weather is coming right at us. The storms contain heavy rains, intense lightning and up to 70mph winds.

The storms should arrive in northern portions of the viewing area at around 4:30pm. They could be in the metropolitan St. Louis area around 5-6pm.

Pay attention to the weather as the afternoon progresses.
