Cardinals pitcher Mike Mayers made his big league debut on Sunday night at Busch Stadium and it’s a beginning he’d like to forget. The Dodgers pounded Mayers for nine runs in only one and a third innings, on the way to a 9-6 win. Mayers allowed six runs in the first inning, including a grand slam HR to LA’s Adrian Gonzalez. After Howie Kendrick’s two run home run in the second inning, Mayers night was over.

The Cardinals did manage to climb back into the game with a two run home run from Tommy Pham in the second inning and a two run double by Stephen Piscotty in the seventh, that made it a 9-6 game. That’s as close as the game would get.

The loss gives the Dodgers the series winning the final two games of the three game set. The defeat all knocks the Cardinals (52-46) seven and a half games back of the first place Cubs in the National League Central division.
