Granite City man killed in work accident in steel sheet plant

VENICE, IL (KTVI) – A 56-year old Granite City man died Friday morning in an industrial mishap at a steel sheet plant.

According to the Madison County Coroner’s Office, 56-year-old Kevin Slaton was working at Custom Steel Processing in the 1000 block of College Street just after 7:30 a.m. when he became trapped between two coils of steel.

Slaton was pronounced dead just after 8:30 a.m. The initial autopsy indicates he died from craniocerebral blunt head trauma.

Slaton’s death is being investigated by the Venice Police Department and the US Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

Funeral arrangements for Slaton are still pending.
