ST. LOUIS (KTVI) - Fans of Liverpool FC have come to St. Louis from all across the country to attend Monday night`s pre-season soccer game against AS Roma at Busch Stadium.
'I`ve met fans from South Dakota, Mississippi, Florida, Virginia, New York, and Pittsburg, so they are pretty much coming from all over the country,' said Isabel Briones, chairwoman of the Official Liverpool Supporters Club of St. Louis.
'You never know if they are going to come to the Midwest, they stick on the east coast, the west coast, big cities so for us to get it in St. Louis is a really big deal,' she added.
Many of the Liverpool fans were been hanging out at the Amsterdam Tavern in South St. Louis Monday afternoon, thanks in part to a guest appearance by retired player Robbie Fowler, the Liverpool equivalent of Ozzie Smith.
'When they first announced the schedule, they were only going to be playing in California and that was going to be too far for us to travel,' said Colin Anderson, who drove to St. Louis with his friend Rick Forlines, all the way from Carrboro, North Carolina.
'Luckily, I heard they were going to be playing in St. Louis, and I thought that is 800 miles, I can do in one day,’ Anderson said.
'It is a short distance to travel to see Liverpool,' Forlines said. 'I would have walked here on my knees."
