Shannen Doherty says her breast cancer may have spread.

The actress told Entertainment Tonight, “I had breast cancer that spread to the lymph nodes, and from one of my surgeries we discovered that some of the cancer cells might have actually gone out of the lymph nodes. So for that reason, we are doing chemo, and then after chemo, I’ll do radiation.”

The 45-year-old actress said the unknown is the scariest part.  “Pain is manageable, you know, living without a breast is manageable; it’s the worry of your future and how your future is going to affect the people that you love.”

The actress went public with her diagnosis last August when she filed a lawsuit against her former business manager. In the claim, the “Charmed” and “90210” star accused her manager of not paying health insurance premiums, causing coverage for the actress to lapse.

On Wednesday, Doherty posted images on her Instagram account. In one, she is being hugged by her mother, Rosa Doherty. In another, friend and model Anne Marie Kortright takes a photo as the actress cuts her hair.

Doherty had earlier Instagramed a photo with the caption “Cupcake pan, chocolates and a razor…. Stay tuned. @annemkortright has got this. #cancersucks #thankgodforfriends,” to tease that she would be shaving her head.

Doherty’s social media followers responded with well wishes.

“Still as beautiful as when I watched you on 90210. Keep fighting the fight. You got this girl,” read one comment.

Doherty talked to Entertainment Tonight about the decision to shave her head.

“After my second treatment, my hair was really matted, like in dreadlocks. And I went to try and brush it out, and it just fell out. I just remember holding onto huge clumps of my hair in my hands and just running to my mom crying, like, ‘My hair, my hair, my hair, my hair.’ ”

Doherty said she is sharing her story in the hopes of inspiring  others who are fighting cancer.
