ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) - Flash flooding wallops the area from DeSoto to Hazelwood to Brentwood. It is particularly tough to take in Brentwood. The exact same area was hit seven months ago.
Business owners along Manchester had to be rescued by boat the day after Christmas in 2015. A little more than 10 hours ago it happened again. The water was about thigh high In the Wild Nails Salon.
The fire chief says it felt like more roads were closed than open around 5:30am. Portions of Brentwood, Hanley, Hanley Industrial, and Manchester were all underwater. Firefighters took boats by flooded businesses and cars to check for stranded victims. We've confirmed just one rescue on Brentwood road.
The owner of Wild Nails says the timing of this was especially cruel. By the time a friend called to tell him about the flooding, the water was already three feet high inside his business.
"She called and told me, 'Your nail shop is getting flooded like last time, December 26th.' I said, Oh my God." said business owner Hiep Le. "Last time we were trapped in the store and a canoe came and rescued us. That time we were able to save some stuff because we were in the shop. This time, it's completely, total trash."
The fire chief estimates a couple dozen homes and businesses damaged. A MSD spokesman says they handle flooding claims where the flooding is caused by sewer back-ups inside a building. This type of flooding is up to property owners. Any long term fix is up to the city of Brentwood.
