DE SOTO, MO (KTVI) - Approximately 25 to 30 blocks in De Soto were cordoned off and evacuated before dawn Monday as a nearby creek flooded and threatened homes.

According to Captain Mike McMunn of the De Soto Police Department, officers noticed around 4 a.m. that heavy rainfall caused Joachim Creek to rise three feet in about 20 minutes, prompting the mass evacuation.

At least 50 people had to evacuated via water rescue, McMunn said.

De Soto authorities established a staging area at Main and Miller streets in the downtown area.
