O’FALLON, MO (KTVI) – The murder charges against Pamela Hupp was no surprise to Clayton based attorney Joel Schwartz.  Schwartz got to know Hupp during the murder trial of his client, Russ Faria.  Schwartz said all the evidence in the murder of Betsy Faria pointed to Hupp, but prosecutors charged Russ Faria in the death of his wife.  Faria was convicted but later exonerated.

“Had Lincoln County done the job that they should have done, that a 5th grader could have done, Pam Hupp would have been charged with murder,” said Schwartz.

He believes murder victim Louis Gumpenberger would still be alive if Lincoln County authorities had looked closer at Hupp as a suspect.  Lincoln County authorities have maintained the evidence pointed to Russ Faria.

Gumpenberger’s former girlfriend says it will be a struggle without him.  He was the father of two of her children.

She praises the work by O’Fallon, Mo investigators and the St. Charles County Prosecutor’s Office.

“I’m just very happy that they really pursued the case and found out the truth, and found out the details,” said Shannon Zoll.  “At one point I felt like I’d never have answers.”
