Pam Hupp says she’s not guilty. That’s according to her attorney at Hupp’s first court appearance. The Judge barred the public from her arraignment, citing safety concerns. The hearing was held inside a jailhouse courtroom.
Hupp faces a first degree murder charge in a bizarre plot prosecutors say she hatched to try to frame someone else.
After Hupp’s arrest, O’Fallon Missouri Police obtained a trash bag of possible evidence. Police obtained a search warrant based on the Hupp’s activity just before Pam Hupp’s arrest.
The possible evidence was captured in a photo taken by our partners at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. It shows Pam Hupp’s husband carrying what appears to be a garbage bag into their 2016 GMC Arcadia. Fox 2 was also there investigating reports from Hupp that she shot a man burglarizing her home.
St. Charles County Prosecutor Tim Lohmar believes it was a set up and that Hupp tricked the man into getting in her car so that she could drive him to her home, murder him and frame Russ Faria for the crime.
Hupp’s testimony helped convict Faria for his wife Betsy Faria’s 2011 murder. Faria was later exonerated when evidence came out that Hupp benefitted from Betsy’s $150,000 life insurance policy.
After Hupp’s arrest, O’Fallon Police served that warrant for trash bags seen in Hupp’s car.
Here’s what they reported finding:
- A death certificate for Elizabeth Faria.
- A 1099 form from 2005 with Betsy Faria as a recipient.
- The Last Will and Testament for Hupp’s deceased mother Shirley Neumann.
- 1 yellow sticky note with Shirley Neumann’s name on it.
- About ten items of clothing, including t-shirts and different colored striped shirts.
The court record doesn’t say the significance, if any. We may find out more in future court proceedings.
Today’s arraignment lasted just minutes, where Hupp reportedly acknowledged she understood the charges, said she wasn’t guilty and got a future court date of September 7th.
