ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)- Two families of victims of deadly shootings are trying to turn a tragedy into positive by marching for peace this weekend.
Twenty year old Nick Kapusniak was your typical all-American boy attending college at St. Louis College of Pharmacy when his life was unexpectedly cut short. He and his friends were celebrating Mardis Gras in the back yard of a house in the 2700 block of Accomac on March 1, 2014 when a white car drove through the alley and pulled up and shot several times into the crowd. Nick was the only one struck and killed.
The killer drove away and there is currently a $30,000 reward to find them. On Saturday there will be a 5K walk in Nick’s honor at Carondelet Park from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. For more info go to kappyskampaign.org.
Meanwhile, a grieving mother will be marching with others through the streets hoping to stand up to the violence that’s plaguing the city. 17 year-old Jared Elam was killed on September 4th, of 2014—two days before he was to start college-- in the 4200 block of OBear.
On Sunday at 1:30 p.m. Jared’s mother Sabrina will be marching there with other mothers for the 2nd straight year.
The walk is called “Beat These Streets with Our Feet”.
