Arts Pop: Great reads for Fall 2016

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – Fall is this “it” season for books. That’s according to St. Louis Post-Dispatch Book Editor Jane Henderson, who is out with her 2016 Fall Book preview this weekend.

There are many eagerly anticipated and hyped original novels, biographies, story collections, and more being released this fall.

One such book is "Here I Am" by Jonathan Safran Foer, who is also the author of "Everything Is Illuminated." He hasn't published a novel in 11 years, so this new book is drawing a lot of interest. "Here I Am" involves a Jewish family with three sons, a failing marriage and an earthquake in the Middle East. Foer will be in St. Louis at the St. Louis County Library headquarters on September 23, 2016 to talk about the book.

Another anticipated title for Missourians may be "The General vs. the President" by H.W. Brands, It tells the history about how one of Missouri's favorite sons, the down-to-earth Harry S Truman, took on combative and popular Gen. Douglas MacArthur during the Cold War. Truman would eventually fire MacArthur, but Brands looks at the president's own mistakes along the way. Brands will be in St. Louis October 26, 2016, also at the St. Louis County Library headquarters.
