(KTVI) – After two studies were published in 2012, the U.S. Preventative Services Task Force recommended against PSA screening for men. However, Dr. John Bedwinek, a radiation oncologist with SSM St. Joseph Hospital Lake St. Louis strongly disagrees with the federal guideline. Bedwinek advises men between the ages of 50 and 70 to get the test which can detect the presence of prostate cancer. Because Dr. Bedwinek says African American men get a more aggressive form of prostate cancer, which can be deadly, he advises them to get tested at age 40 or 45. On Wednesday, September 7, 2016, men can get a free prostate cancer screening at Dave Sinclair Buick GMC located at 5655 South Lindbergh from four until seven in the evening.
