Supporters lace up to strut for breast cancer awareness

ST. LOUIS (KTVI) - The 7th Annual Sista Strut was held at the Soldiers' Memorial, on 13th and Chestnut, Saturday with speakers, dancing, a special tribute and more!

Sista Strut is the largest walk of its kind in the nation to support women of color with breast cancer.  Over 6,000 participant took part is this year’s walk.  All of the contributions raised for Sista Strut in St. Louis stays in St. Louis to provide community support, research and breast cancer testing.

The goal of Sista Strut is to heighten awareness about the issues of breast cancer in women of color, as well as provide information on community resources. Studies show that African American women are more likely to get breast cancer at a younger age and have a death rate twice that of Caucasian women of the same age. Sista Strut recognizes the strength of survivors, their family and friends, promotes early detection and the search for a cure.
