Dr. Pamela Bunting, a breast surgeon at SSM Health St. Clare Hospital in Fenton, says mammograms should be scheduled annually for women 40 and over. But if you have a family history, your mammogram should be scheduled before the age of 40 and may also include an MRI.
SSM Health Breast Care advocates the guidelines endorsed by the American Cancer Society.
These guidelines include:
- Annual screening mammography beginning at age 40 for average risk women
- Annual clinical breast exam
- Monthly breast self-examination
