Anheuser-Busch, Schlafly craft special brews for the debate

ST. LOUIS (KTVI) – Anheuser-Busch/InBev Research Pilot Brewmaster Rob Naylor described a special beer he and another brewmaster developed for the presidential debate in St. Louis.

It’s named “Lilly’s Lager.”

Who is “Lilly”?

“Lilly was Eberhard Anheuser's daughter,” Naylor said. “Back when Anheuser-Busch was created, Eberhard Anheuser’s daughter met Adolphus Busch and they were married; and so she was kind of the first lady of brewing – the first ‘Anheuser-Busch.’”

And do these guys know how to characterize beer.

“So, I'm smelling,” said Naylor, holding a beer stein up to his face, his nose submerged in the mug. “I get a little bit of that kind of herbal, spicy note that I get from the hops. And it's got that nice, harvest gold color. Starts off sweet. Gives you a little bitter finish at the end.”

At Schlafly Bottleworks, the POTUS is an American lager available in three different glasses: one for Donald Trump, one for Hillary Clinton, and one for the write-in candidate of your choice.

Schlafly Experiential Marketing Coordinator Dess Elz describes the new brew.

“It's a really clean, crisp, and balanced,” she said. “Brewed with corn for a little local flavor.”

Elz said the new flavor commemorates the presidential occasion.

“So the whole idea is everybody will come together in the community despite their differences of opinion.”

Like the attention St. Louis will receive from the debate, both beers are available for a limited time only.
