Pediatric Orthopedic Project, Inc. helps spinal correction for impoverished children

ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI)- Co-founders of the Pediatric Orthopedic Project, Inc. (POP) Dr. Enrico Stazzone and Dr. Madelyn Stazzone share POP's mission and their upcoming  fundraising event "A Caribbean Gala" on October 14th.

Pediatric Orthopedic Project, Inc.,  a non-profit organization based in St. Louis, is dedicated to improving pediatric orthopedic care in developing countries.  Each year POP takes a stellar team of medical personnel to the children`s hospital in Santiago, Dominican Republic and performs free spinal surgeries on impoverished children who would have otherwise had no chance for surgical correction.  Their mission is a multi-faceted and focused on the education of local doctors and nurses.  Their efforts have resulted in the surgical correction of 105 children in 5 years.

In the US, one surgery and recovery costs $80,000.  POP performs free surgeries for 8-9 children each year for less than the cost of 2 surgeries in the US.

This year "A Caribbean Gala" will take place from 6:30 P.M. to 11:30 P.M. on October 14th to raise money for these procedures and surgeries.
