ST. LOUIS, MO (KTVI) – The American Red Cross is partnering with St. Louis area fire departments to install free smoke detectors for at-risk, fire-prone neighborhoods.

According to Captain Garon Mosby of the St. Louis Fire Department , there were over 365,000 fires in the year of 2015 alone, with over 80 percent of fires taking place in the home, the majority of these home fires have been connected to a lack of properly functioning fire alarms. With an average of seven people dying each day from fire related incidents, the American Red Cross is doing its part to make St. Louis residents safer.

Viewers who need smoke alarms can call the FOX 2 Call Center this morning to set up an appointment for free installation. Simply leave your name, phone number, and a good time to be contacted, and a Red Cross volunteer will return the call and schedule the installation.

To set up an appointment, please call the FOX 2 Call Center at 314-516-2797.
